(7:40:30 PM) You have just entered room "BCC Chat."
QueenSidhe (7:40:38 PM): Hello.
bashir325 (7:41:02 PM): hi queen
(7:41:29 PM) Baileyslave has entered the room.
QueenSidhe (7:41:35 PM): Hi Jeff.
QueenSidhe (7:41:40 PM): How are you guys doing?
Baileyslave (7:41:46 PM): hey Queen
QueenSidhe (7:41:47 PM): How did the open chat go?
bashir325 (7:41:48 PM): good, yourself?
QueenSidhe (7:41:55 PM): Sick.
Baileyslave (7:41:58 PM): grrrrr.... I got booted
Baileyslave (7:42:02 PM): missed 45 min
bashir325 (7:42:18 PM): I'm sorry to hear that
Baileyslave (7:42:21 PM): got the flu?
QueenSidhe (7:42:43 PM): A bad sore throat.
bashir325 (7:42:59 PM): ouch
bashir325 (7:43:25 PM): how many people normally come here for these chats?
QueenSidhe (7:43:30 PM): Yeah. It's starting to bother my ears too.
QueenSidhe (7:43:45 PM): About 4.
QueenSidhe (7:44:09 PM): I don't think Zor is coming, though. He's sick too and didn't have time to read the book.
bashir325 (7:44:20 PM): lol, well, i can make it about 5 now
QueenSidhe (7:44:24 PM): =)
Baileyslave (7:44:40 PM): uhoh... sounds like strep
Baileyslave (7:44:50 PM): Zor tried to go to open chat
bashir325 (7:44:59 PM): the book club website is not easy to find though
QueenSidhe (7:44:59 PM): Ouch.
QueenSidhe (7:45:00 PM): That doesn't sound good.
QueenSidhe (7:45:07 PM): How do I tell if I have strep?
Baileyslave (7:45:17 PM): gotta get a throat culture
Baileyslave (7:45:23 PM): off to the doctor!
bashir325 (7:45:43 PM): i think i'd rather suffer than go to the doctor
Baileyslave (7:45:54 PM): but 2or days of antibiotics will make you feel much better
QueenSidhe (7:45:59 PM): Great! My health insurace got cancelled around now.
Baileyslave (7:46:02 PM): 2 or 3
Baileyslave (7:46:37 PM): boo
bashir325 (7:46:45 PM): eek
Baileyslave (7:46:57 PM): school clinic?
Baileyslave (7:47:09 PM): its pretty straightforward
QueenSidhe (7:47:23 PM): Yeah, I'' try them.
QueenSidhe (7:47:31 PM): I'll.
Baileyslave (7:47:53 PM): warm tea, lemon and if you can stand it, tabasco will help the pain
QueenSidhe (7:48:04 PM): Okay. One warning before we start.
QueenSidhe (7:48:21 PM): I'm at home and I've been having problems w/ my monitor.
bashir325 (7:48:23 PM): i wouldve thought honey would be better for a sore throat
QueenSidhe (7:48:31 PM): It dies on me kind of often.
Baileyslave (7:48:41 PM): yikes
QueenSidhe (7:48:44 PM): So I might not be able to participate through the entire chat.
bashir325 (7:49:10 PM): groan
Baileyslave (7:49:15 PM): honey is good, but tabasco lasts longer
QueenSidhe (7:49:19 PM): I have ginger honey that I'll try.
QueenSidhe (7:49:25 PM): No lemons at the moment.
Baileyslave (7:49:29 PM): technology, ain't it grand?
QueenSidhe (7:49:33 PM): No tabasco.
QueenSidhe (7:49:36 PM): =)
QueenSidhe (7:49:43 PM): I need to get a new monitor.
QueenSidhe (7:49:47 PM): But not until after I move.
bashir325 (7:50:01 PM): when is the big move?
QueenSidhe (7:50:13 PM): Okay, so what did everyone think of Jack of Kinrowan?
QueenSidhe (7:50:15 PM): May 20.
bashir325 (7:50:45 PM): well, the moon as a deus ex machina was a new one on me
Baileyslave (7:50:47 PM): it was OK - unfortuantely, resembled Lackey series I jusst read
Baileyslave (7:51:05 PM): and I liked her books better
QueenSidhe (7:51:22 PM): Yeah. Didn't I say somewhere that Jackie reminded me of Eric Banyon?
QueenSidhe (7:51:28 PM): And there goes my monitor.
bashir325 (7:51:31 PM): not bad though, i probably wouldnt have picked it up on my own though
QueenSidhe (7:51:35 PM): I can still talk.
Baileyslave (7:51:42 PM): yes...
QueenSidhe (7:51:46 PM): I just have no clue what in the world anyone is saying.
QueenSidhe (7:51:49 PM): ::sigh::.
Baileyslave (7:51:57 PM): this could be interesting
bashir325 (7:52:12 PM): only good things queen
Baileyslave (7:52:22 PM): what is your usual flavor, Bashir?
bashir325 (7:52:38 PM): a bit more hardcore sf
Baileyslave (7:53:05 PM): you'd get along with Kelvin (KWM) and Queen just fine
bashir325 (7:53:07 PM): although i do like quite a bit of fantasy along the lines of terry brooks
Baileyslave (7:53:11 PM): that's what they like
Baileyslave (7:53:19 PM): Eddings?
bashir325 (7:53:29 PM): about to start Jupiter by Ben Bova
bashir325 (7:54:02 PM): ive never read any of his stuff, havent been able to get up a lot of enthusiasm for those huge books
Baileyslave (7:54:02 PM): never read Bova
QueenSidhe (7:54:28 PM): I'll come back later if the monitor decides to work again.
bashir325 (7:54:33 PM): or am i confusing him with Robert Jordan?
Baileyslave (7:54:37 PM): Another reg Zorprime likes the Goodkind books - very big
QueenSidhe (7:54:42 PM): Keep chatting about the book if you like.
bashir325 (7:54:49 PM): lol
bashir325 (7:54:52 PM): poor queen
Baileyslave (7:54:53 PM): such a good host
Baileyslave (7:55:13 PM): you'd never guess she's a computer major
bashir325 (7:55:19 PM): what about you? what type do you like?
bashir325 (7:55:48 PM): chuckle, i had a monitor like that for a while, a good whack usually fixed it till i hit it too hard once
Baileyslave (7:56:01 PM): fantasy mostly - Eddings/Brooks/Feist and some quirkier stuff like Beagle and NK Hoffman
bashir325 (7:56:28 PM): noticed y'all read some Aspirin a while back, what did you think of him?
Baileyslave (7:56:29 PM): though I liked Enders Game
Baileyslave (7:57:03 PM): he's pretty funny... not as punny as Piers Anthony, but very humorous... esp. fantasy series
Baileyslave (7:57:16 PM): A Fine Myth, etc
bashir325 (7:57:20 PM): have you got the new xanth novel yet?
bashir325 (7:57:38 PM): yep, i went through the myth series in about a week
Baileyslave (7:57:39 PM): nah... I quit reading them about 6 or 7 back
Baileyslave (7:57:59 PM): to hard to keep all the recurring characters straight
Baileyslave (7:58:11 PM): and the puns got to be a little forced
Baileyslave (7:58:23 PM): though Anthony's bios are very interesting
bashir325 (7:58:26 PM): i still keep up with it, but i find i have to start from the very beginning and reread the whole series to keep things straight
Baileyslave (7:58:40 PM): LOL
Baileyslave (7:58:49 PM): that'll keep you busy
bashir325 (7:58:51 PM): well, theyre not nearly as punny as they used to be
Baileyslave (7:59:03 PM): I liked his Incarnations series better
bashir325 (7:59:16 PM): just a tiny bit, takes me about a month now to read them all
Baileyslave (7:59:33 PM): wow - a speed demon
bashir325 (7:59:35 PM): really? i found the mode series easier to get into
Baileyslave (7:59:51 PM): never read it - but did read Phase
Baileyslave (8:00:28 PM): he's like a favorite food - too much turns you off
bashir325 (8:00:35 PM): yep, btw, Bruce Sterling lives here in Austin with me, i got hooked on him because i had a friend who was his next door neighbor
Baileyslave (8:00:43 PM): best every once in a while
Baileyslave (8:01:07 PM): there's a pic in Locus of him feeding groundhogs!
bashir325 (8:01:11 PM): about once a year for anthony for me, about the time his new xanth novels come out
bashir325 (8:01:24 PM): LOL, that sounds just like him!
bashir325 (8:01:57 PM): hes a pretty normal person to talk to, but his books can be a bit disturbing at times
Baileyslave (8:02:23 PM): didn't he write the book about short time lapse?
Baileyslave (8:02:37 PM): and I want to say Distraction
bashir325 (8:02:43 PM): not sure, hes wrote quite a few now
bashir325 (8:03:00 PM): heavy weather is probably my favorite of his
Baileyslave (8:03:04 PM): does he do a lot of book signings in area
bashir325 (8:03:22 PM): atm anyway, i just picked up a couple more last weekend
bashir325 (8:03:50 PM): dunno, ive never seen him do one, but i met him before i knew he was an author
Baileyslave (8:04:13 PM): that sounds interesting... he didn't mention it in conversation?
Baileyslave (8:04:34 PM): if I was a famous authr, I'd wear a big sign!
bashir325 (8:04:38 PM): naw, we never talked about his writing, just general stuff
bashir325 (8:04:49 PM): when i met him though, he wasnt
QueenSidhe (8:05:05 PM): Here we go.
QueenSidhe (8:05:08 PM): I'm back!
bashir325 (8:05:13 PM): about 6 months later though he got $1 mill signing bonus
Baileyslave (8:05:18 PM): yow!
Baileyslave (8:05:31 PM): stay in touch with him!
bashir325 (8:05:37 PM): but my friend had moved by then, and i didnt know him well enough to keep up the relationship
Baileyslave (8:05:41 PM): wb, Queen
bashir325 (8:05:53 PM): although i DO know where he lives
bashir325 (8:06:00 PM): yay Queen!
QueenSidhe (8:06:14 PM): =)
Baileyslave (8:06:40 PM): wonder what famous writers do socially? Just hang out or go to fancy parties?
Baileyslave (8:07:01 PM): Hard to imagine Bruce Sterling and Piers Anthony at a barbecue!
bashir325 (8:07:02 PM): lol, he mows his own lawn!
QueenSidhe (8:07:16 PM): Any particular famous authors?
bashir325 (8:07:16 PM): and i gave him a beer once
Baileyslave (8:07:42 PM): That's your in! I'm just dropping off a few brewskis, Bruce
bashir325 (8:07:49 PM): well, since anthony is a vegetarian, i doubt he'd even show up for a barbeque
Baileyslave (8:07:58 PM): he is?
QueenSidhe (8:08:01 PM): veggie kabobs.
bashir325 (8:08:01 PM): yep
Baileyslave (8:08:13 PM): he could eat the potato salaad
QueenSidhe (8:08:15 PM): And those veggie burgers.
bashir325 (8:08:23 PM): personally, i think thats why hes so skinny
Baileyslave (8:09:01 PM): his bio mentions his battle with a musculkar disease of some sort
bashir325 (8:09:13 PM): we've got a barbecue joint here that sells shirts 'I didn't claw my way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables!'
bashir325 (8:09:26 PM): i didnt know that about him
Baileyslave (8:09:28 PM): lol
Baileyslave (8:09:53 PM): yeah... it's weird to think of authors as just folks
Baileyslave (8:10:22 PM): its in the BIo of an Ogre book... I think thats the title
bashir325 (8:10:34 PM): theyre kinda like our teachers used to be in grammar school
bashir325 (8:10:51 PM): so queen, whats your fav type of book?
Baileyslave (8:10:54 PM): yeah, you never imagined them as regular people
QueenSidhe (8:11:00 PM): Character driven.
QueenSidhe (8:11:21 PM): I like both sf and fanasty.
Baileyslave (8:11:24 PM): so you liked Jackie?
bashir325 (8:11:28 PM): i remember in 3rd grade when our teacher got pregnant, the questions we asked her!!!
QueenSidhe (8:11:37 PM): It just has to have interesting characters.
Baileyslave (8:11:38 PM): hahahahahaha
QueenSidhe (8:11:40 PM): lol.
QueenSidhe (8:11:45 PM): Actually, no.
QueenSidhe (8:12:10 PM): =T I could swear I mentioned my thoughts about Jackie somewhere on the board.
bashir325 (8:12:20 PM): im curious if the rest of de Lints stuff is like Jack
Baileyslave (8:12:26 PM): too... wimpy? weird? submissive?
QueenSidhe (8:12:31 PM): She's too weak a character and way lucky.
Baileyslave (8:12:38 PM): hmmmmmmm... don't remember that Queen
bashir325 (8:12:50 PM): but she had the moon on her side!
QueenSidhe (8:12:52 PM): She reminded me a bit of Eric Banyon, but Eric had some personal gifts.
QueenSidhe (8:13:35 PM): What did you two think of her?
Baileyslave (8:13:41 PM): DeLint's other books (I 've read) are more based in real world with strange intersections with a few mythical creatures
Baileyslave (8:14:02 PM): more like Beagles Tamsin
bashir325 (8:14:16 PM): it was ok, but like i told jeff, i like it a bit more hardcore usually
Baileyslave (8:14:24 PM): she was too blah to be hero... Eric was more my style
QueenSidhe (8:14:36 PM): Same here.
QueenSidhe (8:14:48 PM): She seemed to blunder her way to victory.
Baileyslave (8:14:50 PM): and I liked Lackey's Elves much better
QueenSidhe (8:15:01 PM): It was the secondary characters who seemed to do all the work.
bashir325 (8:15:03 PM): for some reason, the other characters seemed more defined than her
Baileyslave (8:15:05 PM): sorta like Donaldson's Thomas
QueenSidhe (8:15:22 PM): Yes, exactly, bashir.
bashir325 (8:15:34 PM): my favorite elves are from Brooks Shannara series
bashir325 (8:15:49 PM): argh, call me Roy
bashir325 (8:15:52 PM): lol
QueenSidhe (8:15:58 PM): =)
Baileyslave (8:15:59 PM): Moonheart and Yarrow, later books, have better lead characters
QueenSidhe (8:16:21 PM): A different series?
Baileyslave (8:16:28 PM): stand alones
bashir325 (8:16:51 PM): i think he got confused about who the protagonist really was at times
bashir325 (8:17:13 PM): were these some of his first works?
QueenSidhe (8:17:27 PM): Maybe it was in the style of older books/
Baileyslave (8:17:39 PM): well, it was written during fantasy boom of 80s, so maybe he was trying to attract all those folks
QueenSidhe (8:17:49 PM): I'm told in the 50's or some time around then, heros weren't supposed to be very smart.
Baileyslave (8:18:01 PM): yes, some of his early magic realism books
QueenSidhe (8:18:11 PM): Like E.E. "Doc" Smith's Lensmen series.
Baileyslave (8:18:20 PM): though he wrote other pure fantasy before
bashir325 (8:18:21 PM): unfortunately, i havent read much from the golden or silver ages other than asimov
QueenSidhe (8:18:40 PM): I was reading the thrid book in the series.
QueenSidhe (8:18:51 PM): The first chapter looked really cool.
bashir325 (8:18:52 PM): and a little niven
QueenSidhe (8:19:06 PM): Then in the next chapter, the hero sounded like a big idiot.
Baileyslave (8:19:09 PM): for me Eddings and Brooks are the golden age!
QueenSidhe (8:19:13 PM): =)
bashir325 (8:19:25 PM): lol
Baileyslave (8:19:33 PM): did he smarten up again?
QueenSidhe (8:19:50 PM): Not from what I saw skimming the rest of the book.
QueenSidhe (8:19:55 PM): So I gave up on that series.
Baileyslave (8:19:59 PM): ugh
QueenSidhe (8:20:35 PM): I was also hoping for more info about their special devices.
QueenSidhe (8:20:40 PM): But there wasn't any.
bashir325 (8:20:40 PM): Jumper is next, right?
QueenSidhe (8:20:43 PM): Yes.
QueenSidhe (8:20:49 PM): That was a very good book.
Baileyslave (8:21:09 PM): didn't Gould write WildSide?
Baileyslave (8:21:16 PM): I liked that one
QueenSidhe (8:21:22 PM): Yes.
QueenSidhe (8:21:26 PM): I liked it too.
Baileyslave (8:21:32 PM): so I should love Jumper
QueenSidhe (8:21:41 PM): Yup.
bashir325 (8:21:46 PM): ive never read any gould before, looking forward to it
QueenSidhe (8:21:52 PM): I think Wildside was more fun.
Baileyslave (8:22:03 PM): it was fast paced, for sure
QueenSidhe (8:22:04 PM): Jumper's more thoughtful, IMO.
Baileyslave (8:22:09 PM): a real change from Jackie
QueenSidhe (8:22:26 PM): You found it a bit slow too?
Baileyslave (8:22:50 PM): yeah... I couldn't wait for someone else to DO something so the plot would proceed
bashir325 (8:22:56 PM): well i used Jackie to help me fall asleep at night
QueenSidhe (8:23:01 PM): =)
QueenSidhe (8:23:02 PM): lol!
Baileyslave (8:23:06 PM): LOL - not a great review
bashir325 (8:23:42 PM): well, i always fall asleep reading, i just used Jackie this week
QueenSidhe (8:23:52 PM): It was interesting enough that I went on to read the rest of it.
Baileyslave (8:23:56 PM): too bad too - cause other authors have used the premise with great success
QueenSidhe (8:24:02 PM): But Jackie wasn't the reason.
QueenSidhe (8:24:23 PM): Jackie needed something to make her interesting.
QueenSidhe (8:24:47 PM): Besides some spirit.
Baileyslave (8:24:54 PM): new hairdo?
bashir325 (8:24:59 PM): unfortunately im one of those people who WANT to write, i just can never figure out HOW to get my ideas on paper coherently
QueenSidhe (8:24:59 PM): lol
QueenSidhe (8:25:15 PM): Start with a plot outline.
bashir325 (8:25:23 PM): I kinda liked Jemi's hairdo, lol
bashir325 (8:25:57 PM): i'm an accountant/office manager by trade, so that doesnt come easily for me
Baileyslave (8:25:57 PM): just record them as you make them up, then sit down later and use those tapes as outline
bashir325 (8:26:20 PM): numbers make sense, words dont always
Baileyslave (8:26:20 PM): otherwise, best ideas escape
Baileyslave (8:26:34 PM): A Calculated Magic
QueenSidhe (8:26:35 PM): I dislike writting.
QueenSidhe (8:26:44 PM): Reading, though.
QueenSidhe (8:26:59 PM): That was a good book,
Baileyslave (8:27:03 PM): hmmm, usually they go hand in hand
QueenSidhe (8:27:14 PM): Not with me.
bashir325 (8:27:19 PM): then of course, if i do write it, then what?
bashir325 (8:27:33 PM): find an agent?
QueenSidhe (8:27:36 PM): You can post it online so we can read it.
bashir325 (8:27:47 PM): hmm
QueenSidhe (8:27:51 PM): =)
Baileyslave (8:28:05 PM): ther are lots of online publishers nowadays looking for books
QueenSidhe (8:28:14 PM): actually, I'm told you should try to get your manuscript accepted by a publisher before finding an agent.
bashir325 (8:28:20 PM): only if everyone promises not to laugh at me when im around
QueenSidhe (8:28:21 PM): I think.
Baileyslave (8:28:28 PM): might be a good time to put something on paper (or diskette)
QueenSidhe (8:28:30 PM): I might be remembering wrong.
QueenSidhe (8:28:55 PM): You should check out www.baen.com
Baileyslave (8:29:05 PM): usually a brief outline and a few chapters is what a publisher uses to buy books
bashir325 (8:29:07 PM): well, i COULD pick up The Writer's Handbook next time i hit B & N i guess
QueenSidhe (8:29:16 PM): One of the people who chat on the message boards there got his book published.
bashir325 (8:29:24 PM): really?
QueenSidhe (8:29:27 PM): Yes.
bashir325 (8:29:34 PM): cool
QueenSidhe (8:29:36 PM): He now has many books planned.
QueenSidhe (8:29:45 PM): And co-authoring with David Weber.
QueenSidhe (8:29:59 PM): I think he's had 3 books published so far.
bashir325 (8:29:59 PM): anything i might have heard of?
Baileyslave (8:30:05 PM): hey, you couldco-author with Bruce
QueenSidhe (8:30:07 PM): And his first book came out late last year.
QueenSidhe (8:30:13 PM): John Ringo.
QueenSidhe (8:30:22 PM): His first book is A Hymm Before Battle.
QueenSidhe (8:30:33 PM): Gust Front just came out around now.
QueenSidhe (8:30:39 PM): That's the sequel.
bashir325 (8:30:43 PM): yeah, like a multi-millionare author would want to co-author with a complete novice, grin
QueenSidhe (8:30:58 PM): It depends on if he likes your work.
bashir325 (8:30:59 PM): millionaire?
QueenSidhe (8:31:03 PM): That's what happened to Ringo.
Baileyslave (8:31:05 PM): hey, if you've got a good idea, even Bruce would listen
QueenSidhe (8:31:17 PM): David Weber read Hymm and like what he saw.
Baileyslave (8:31:29 PM): then you can dump him for the 2nd book!
Baileyslave (8:31:39 PM): and keep all the money yourself
QueenSidhe (8:31:40 PM): He then put together a plot outline and offered to collaborate with Ringo.
bashir325 (8:31:40 PM): thats an idea i havent thought of anyway
QueenSidhe (8:32:16 PM): Check out the message board on that site.
bashir325 (8:32:28 PM): which site?
QueenSidhe (8:32:30 PM): They have a section where you can post what you write and get comments.
QueenSidhe (8:32:35 PM): www.baen.com
bashir325 (8:32:39 PM): ahh
QueenSidhe (8:32:47 PM): Or directly atbar.baen.com/~bar
QueenSidhe (8:32:58 PM): at bar.baen.com/~bar
QueenSidhe (8:33:16 PM): There are 9 or so authors who actively post there.
Baileyslave (8:33:29 PM): man, sounds like queen could be your agent!
bashir325 (8:33:30 PM): i'll have to check it out then
bashir325 (8:33:48 PM): well queen?
QueenSidhe (8:33:50 PM): I know one of them posted some suggestions for aspiring writers and also critiqued some people's work.
QueenSidhe (8:33:55 PM): =)
bashir325 (8:34:32 PM): although that means you'd have to read what i write *ugh*
Baileyslave (8:35:15 PM): hey, get used to it - millions of folks will be reading it
QueenSidhe (8:35:22 PM): Well, I enjoy reading a good sf/f
QueenSidhe (8:35:33 PM): What kind of story would you write?
bashir325 (8:35:34 PM): yeah, but i wont be talking to them every other week!
QueenSidhe (8:35:41 PM): lol.
Baileyslave (8:35:59 PM): maybe -when you mow your lawn
bashir325 (8:36:14 PM): ive got a couple of ideas, one is pure sci-fi, the other is in the same vein as Jackie,
but with a better protagonist
bashir325 (8:36:25 PM): ROFL
QueenSidhe (8:36:49 PM): =)
QueenSidhe (8:36:53 PM): That's good!
bashir325 (8:37:58 PM): so what would you think of plasma creatures that live in a star's coronae?
QueenSidhe (8:37:59 PM): But the supporting cast was okay.
Baileyslave (8:38:37 PM): they're hot, hot, hot?
QueenSidhe (8:38:38 PM): Would they die from freezing if they ever left?
Baileyslave (8:39:00 PM): how would humans interact with them?
QueenSidhe (8:39:05 PM): And what kind of conflict?
QueenSidhe (8:39:15 PM): How intelligent can plasma be?
QueenSidhe (8:39:23 PM): brb
bashir325 (8:39:26 PM): they would die if they didnt get to another star, although groups of them could travel together, ie a coronal mass ejection
Baileyslave (8:39:43 PM): hmmmmmm....
Baileyslave (8:39:50 PM): interesting
Baileyslave (8:40:15 PM): but can they withstand the distance they'd ave to travel?
bashir325 (8:40:24 PM): conflict along the lines of humans messing up their biosphere with satellites like COBE
Baileyslave (8:40:52 PM): good.. and?
bashir325 (8:40:58 PM): same way bees make it through the winter, constantly rotating those on the outside of the hive with those from the middle
Baileyslave (8:41:13 PM): sounds like you're ready
bashir325 (8:41:39 PM): the broad strokes perhaps, the conversations and details will be what kills me
Baileyslave (8:42:06 PM): nah, get charcters in mind and just get them talking... and write it down
bashir325 (8:42:28 PM): and what would the solution to the conflict be? havent thought that one out yet
Baileyslave (8:43:04 PM): you've probably done most of the groundwork.... and lots of authors don't know how there books will end until they finish them
bashir325 (8:43:33 PM): all right, the two of y'all have convinced me, i'll write the first chapter and email it to one of you, if you like it, i'll post it on the web for others to read
Baileyslave (8:43:39 PM): I'm sure if you can get some initial plotting down, a few specific paths will become clear
Baileyslave (8:43:51 PM): Hooray!
Baileyslave (8:44:11 PM): a budding millionaire
Baileyslave (8:44:22 PM): (without that annoying Regis)
bashir325 (8:44:29 PM): just be honest, if it sucks, tell me BEFORE i post it for the world to read
Baileyslave (8:45:00 PM): hey - I wouldn't let you embarrass yourself
Baileyslave (8:45:08 PM): and Queen is a tough audience
bashir325 (8:45:17 PM): whew, since i do it enough to myself anyway
Baileyslave (8:45:17 PM): she'll let you know
Baileyslave (8:45:37 PM): hey, get ready for rejection slips
Baileyslave (8:45:51 PM): but keep sending it off...
bashir325 (8:45:55 PM): thats it, build me up, then crush me, lol
QueenSidhe (8:45:57 PM): Yup.
QueenSidhe (8:46:05 PM): lol.
QueenSidhe (8:46:15 PM): Get some character sketches down too.
QueenSidhe (8:46:24 PM): That would help along with a basic plot outline.
bashir325 (8:46:28 PM): good thing i have a strong ego and am stubborn to boot
Baileyslave (8:46:39 PM): hey, they say the hardest part of gettting published is to keep sending manuscript out after eceiving tons of rejection slips
Baileyslave (8:47:06 PM): not everyone is a wunderkind
bashir325 (8:47:15 PM): now i just have to decide who the good guys are, the humans? or the plasma creatures?
Baileyslave (8:47:35 PM): but your ideas sound interesting... and I'm ready to read a chapter
Baileyslave (8:47:43 PM): so thats a good first step
bashir325 (8:48:06 PM): personally, i think the plasma creatures should win, theres not enough scifi where the creatures beat the humans
Baileyslave (8:48:19 PM): maybe no good or bad... just conflicting cultures?
Baileyslave (8:48:33 PM): that would make resolution/ending easier
bashir325 (8:48:39 PM): able to resolve their differences peacefully?
Baileyslave (8:48:53 PM): maybe... or just end conflict
bashir325 (8:49:03 PM): or a mutual detente perhaps
Baileyslave (8:49:23 PM): perhaps the plasma creatures have to pass by eaarth on way to new star
Baileyslave (8:49:42 PM): so conflict resolution is just finally getting past
bashir325 (8:49:46 PM): hmm and knock out hbo and showtime?
Baileyslave (8:49:53 PM): LOL
Baileyslave (8:50:03 PM): not to mention cell phones
bashir325 (8:50:05 PM): or maybe on super bowl sunday!
Baileyslave (8:50:07 PM): humans would panic
bashir325 (8:50:22 PM): no more ferret commercials!
Baileyslave (8:50:24 PM): nah - we'd have to kill them!
bashir325 (8:50:48 PM): but how do you kill plasma?
Baileyslave (8:50:52 PM): now we're approaching Prachett territory
bashir325 (8:50:59 PM): a huge magnet?
Baileyslave (8:51:21 PM): I use Water Magic, but I read fantasy
bashir325 (8:51:47 PM): so for you, its not fight fire with fire, but fight fire with ice?
Baileyslave (8:52:03 PM): or a large hose, yes
QueenSidhe (8:52:18 PM): Easiest way would probably be to freeze them.
bashir325 (8:52:43 PM): thats it! we kill them with a huge water hose, emptying our oceans and consign ourselves to a slow demise
QueenSidhe (8:52:49 PM): Their normal habitat is a star.
Baileyslave (8:52:52 PM): can you contain plasma? or channel it into a conduit
bashir325 (8:53:12 PM): im going to have to work on making my tenses match
Baileyslave (8:53:43 PM): that would be interesting... the humans trying to capture plasma creatures to use as energy source
bashir325 (8:53:51 PM): hmm
Baileyslave (8:53:54 PM): that's why there are editors
QueenSidhe (8:53:56 PM): lol. Tense switching and correct tense usage is one of my probs too.
bashir325 (8:54:23 PM): all the plasma we create here on earth they view as their children perhaps?
Baileyslave (8:54:39 PM): wow... baby starlings
bashir325 (8:54:44 PM): rofl
bashir325 (8:55:45 PM): ok
bashir325 (8:55:52 PM): now i HAVE to write it
Baileyslave (8:56:10 PM): I agree... a serious version and a funny version
QueenSidhe (8:56:19 PM): =)
QueenSidhe (8:56:26 PM): We'll both be looking forward to reading it.
Baileyslave (8:56:40 PM): yes... evne a chapter at a time
bashir325 (8:56:41 PM): ARGH! the pressure!
Baileyslave (8:57:08 PM): hey - I got lots of books to tide me over till then... no pressure at all
bashir325 (8:57:21 PM): ok, by our next meeting here, i'll have emailed it to both of you so i can get some feedback
Baileyslave (8:57:47 PM): but even a few paragraphs wouldgiveus a sense of your writing style
bashir325 (8:57:56 PM): that gives me two weeks to get one chapter together, should be doable
Baileyslave (8:58:27 PM): sharpening my red pencil
bashir325 (8:58:41 PM): glad i spent the 45 minutes it took me to find this club now
bashir325 (8:58:52 PM): arent edits done in blue?
Baileyslave (8:59:13 PM): not when I was in school.... big red marks all over everythiing
bashir325 (8:59:25 PM): you both have Microsoft Word 97 or higher?
QueenSidhe (8:59:30 PM): Yes.
Baileyslave (8:59:34 PM): yes
bashir325 (8:59:48 PM): lol, some of my papers looked like a someone took a shotgun to them and they were bleeding everywhere!
Baileyslave (9:00:06 PM): I know... I keep looking for the smiley face sticker
bashir325 (9:00:18 PM): lol
bashir325 (9:01:10 PM): the little yellow one?
Baileyslave (9:01:24 PM): :-)
bashir325 (9:01:37 PM): better than :-(
QueenSidhe (9:01:46 PM): What did you use to find us?
Baileyslave (9:01:48 PM): exactly
QueenSidhe (9:02:06 PM): O:-)
bashir325 (9:02:20 PM): hmm, typed reading club science fiction at www.ask.com
bashir325 (9:02:51 PM): several sites later i found book club central, which led me to the scifi/fantasy page
Baileyslave (9:03:11 PM): good ol' BCC
bashir325 (9:03:23 PM): or some variation of book club, reading club, reading group, and science fiction anyway
bashir325 (9:03:27 PM): it took me awhile
bashir325 (9:04:40 PM): how are you getting the emoticons?
QueenSidhe (9:05:01 PM): There's a link.
QueenSidhe (9:05:03 PM): Just a sec.
QueenSidhe (9:05:29 PM): http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/help/emoticons.html
Baileyslave (9:05:31 PM): its time for this Iowa boy to hit the hay (Bailey is staring at me).... take care and I'll look forward to the adventures of the plasma creatures... take care!
bashir325 (9:05:43 PM): see ya Jeff
Baileyslave (9:05:54 PM): (I have an icon on my AIM window)

bashir325 (9:06:13 PM): i dont have that icon darn it
bashir325 (9:06:36 PM): time for me to make dinner too, i'll keep ya posted queen
QueenSidhe (9:06:42 PM): Bye.

QueenSidhe (9:06:48 PM): Have a good dinner
